Why This Class?

Animation is one of the greatest forms of creative expression. It celebrates storytelling through sight and sound, and with today’s technology, it’s more accessible than ever. But having access isn’t enough — you need the right tools and insight to make sure your voice is truly heard.

That’s why I’m offering a new 6-week summer course to pass along my experience in film and television. Grab your seat!

My last Indie film class was standing room only, and this time I’m expanding the experience with new elements. In addition to developing a short narrative film, you’ll receive guidance on writing for episodic series, dive deeper into character development, and have focused assignments designed to plant the seeds for your project to truly thrive.

We’ll also begin the course with a one-on-one Zoom session, giving each student personalized guidance from the start based on their focus and experience.

In this 6-week course we will cover:

Preparing your story or concepts for film or episodes and propelling them with vision.
Writing for a series environment and pulling it off.
Developing characters for one off narratives or series.
Two levels of animation guidance with focus on 2d animation.
Using sound and music to support your style and visual expression.
Getting your work out into the world (distribution insights)
Access to an animation community

What you will receive:

Introductory one-on-one zoom meeting with Joe for all students
Six weeks of online video lectures (Yours for unlimited streaming after class completion).
Special tutorial for beginners
Three assignments for seed planting and nurturing of your project
Six live Zoom classes ( recorded for follow-up review)
Private Animation Community – invite-only Facebook group for sharing your work, getting feedback from me and fellow students.
Follow-up coaching on your animation project.

The course is open to all levels, with additional separate guidance for beginners.

I’ve created and produced three animated series and several Independent animated films. Along with that experience, I’ve worked with some of the industry’s greatest masters.

I feel it’s now time to pass along what I know and help a new generation of creators bring their animated projects to life, with their authentic voice.
