Great Summer Reading!

If your a creative ( with an entrepreneurial bend to ya) these two books should be on your summer reading list. Both offer great insights into creativity and alternative business approaches to your ideas.
The first book IGNORE EVERYBODY and 39 Other keys to Creativity is by Hugh Macleod ( Portfolio Books) who shares his cartoons and insight from his popular web site www.gapingvoid.com . A quick read with many bits of advice that I whole heartedly agree with!
Another, which is more business oriented but helped me during this time of getting Kaboing up and running, as well as alternative business approaches is REWORK ( Crown Business Books) by Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson., founders of 37 Signals. My sister Dianne Poinski turned me on to this book.
This is’nt Oprah’s Book Club, but I like to share works that others may benefit from as well.

If it’s anything associated with the word “Oprah”, chances are I won’t touch it with a 50 foot pole. LOL! These books seem interesting. Especially the first one since I’ve been interested in this business for a couple years now. I’ll have to see if I can find a copy. Thanks Joe!

One of my dreams is to start an animation studio, so these books may come in handy.
I got your postcard, btw. Thanks! Still animating on my short cartoon (I’m up to drawing #191 now)

Thank you Joe for not only creating my Favorite cartoon, but also tell us about comic strips that interest you. if you didn’t mention it I would have never found the brilliant (yet sadly ended) Comic Strip that was Citizen Dog. I still read it online daily though, so thank you very much.

Thanks for sharing these; Looking forward to checking them out. Right now, I’m having the problem deciding which idea, of three or four, to get behind and push forward. A good problem to have, I guess…but still, it’s difficult to put some things on the backburner and concentrate on one. Have you ever had this “problem”? And how did you decide which idea to work on?

Going to check them out, definitely.
I will also recommend two books by Malcolm Gladwell- The Tipping Point (the idea of how to make ideas spread by relatively simple tweaks to it) and Outliers (the very real advantages that so-called “self-made” men really had on their ways to success.)
Not only do they provide an excellent look on the people/world around us, The Tipping Point, in particular, is a great read onto how to make new ideas go from smoldering flame to wildfire. It gave me a number of ideas on how to market my cartoon idea.

Hey, Joe. Thanks for keeping up with your blog and keeping us updated with Kaboing TV.
I just wanted to let you know, I saw an episode of Rocko the other day, and I must say, your placement of fart noises in your cartoons is brilliant. I can even see glimpses of it in Frog in a Suit. Keep up the good work man.
