Question for you all
What is your opinion of twitter? How many of you participate in it? Do you find it valuable or a nuisance? Who checks facebook?
What about video blogging? I was thinking of starting to add some video clips of my rants and or animation pencil tests and such.
What are your thoughts?
How can my blog be more helpful to you, as well as a place for me to post stuff that benefits me?

I don’t find Twitter all that useful for finding out information. I don’t belong to it, but I have Adam Savage, Jason DeMarco, Aaron McGruder, Mo Willems, and FUNimation all on my toolbar. It’s kind of fun to see the conversations that go on, but they are so short that I leave feeling like I missed something.
I think it would be pretty cool if you started video blogging. I would be more then interested to hear your thoughts on things as well as pencil tests. (Pencil Test Depot is awesome, by the way: http://www.penciltestdepot.com/)
I have a Facebook, but it has become so overpopulated and with the constant changes, become a worthless website. Like MySpace before it, it will be replaced by some other social network site soon enough.
If you feel so inclined to make a Twitter, you can embed it on your website, by the navigation, instead of linking to the actual Twitter site.
If I have one complaint about your blog it would be that you have to read every post before it gets published. It’s a double edged sword, I think it’s great you read every comment before it goes live, but I do feel it limits the possibility to have conversations with other people who are reading your blog.
Joe on 20 Nov 2009 at 2:43 pm #
I understand that complaint. I try and stay on top of it as much as possible. There is quite of bit of, well,,,, I’ll call it blog graffitti that some people like to get onto blogs, ( or at least mine, which is just a string of four letter words. And there is also spam, just someone trying to sell something.)
I’ll be having someone do more monitoring for me if I get too busy.
Thanks for your input!

The only reason I have a twitter account is because my old boss made all his worker’s follow him on twitter for business purposes. Honestly, I think it was just a way to get his number of followers up, he was pretty egotistical.
I check Facebook on a daily basis, it keeps me in touch with people from high school and college. I used to use MySpace a lot, but it got too teenie-bopperish and I stopped checking it altogether.
Video blogging can be very successful if done correctly. A lot people do it just to see their mugs on the internet for their 15 minutes of fame, but there are a few video blogs that use the medium correctly and are informative. I think in your case video blogging would be a great way to showcase pencil tests, sketches, previews, etc.
To promote your upcoming web series and site I would make a twitter, facebook, myspace, video blog and any other type of social networking page dedicated to it to get free advertising. I’m not a huge fan of twitter, but it does seem like the world has accepted it as a way to get information quickly so it might be something to look into.

Twitter is very nice for just posting a link somewhere(video, article, blog post).
facebook on the other hand… have you seen this http://www.facebook.com/pages/Rockos-Modern-Life/27936144375 ?
unofficial facebook fan page for Rocko’s Modern Life with over 400,000 fans!!
I’d say do a fan page for yourself, which is different than normal facebook page.
pencil tests are always fun to see!

i personally think twitter is good for finding information. not for doing any blog posts, but it’s good for letting ore people know about your blog posts! word spreads quickly, since twitter is designed to be a quick writing tool =] RT’s (retweets) are used when someone’s friend has said sometihng, you can RT it, so all of your friends find out too.
also, in general, i have prefered twitter because everyone i know who uses it, from friends to people i respect, use it to just talk about little every day thoughts and stuff you never really write in a big blog post. i don’t know about all those famous folk, but deifnatley with friends i get to know them better that way, it;s far more insightful to the person =]- dont know if that’s a great reason to get twitter however! haha !
i also think doing video blogs would be cool. sometihng as simple as doing a youtube blog would be great, to show off your library of work/to see how you work. there’s this dude who recently has set up a youtube account- he’s worked in the Special FX industry for 30 years and in retirement has decided to show everyone stuff you never got to see. something like that from you would be cool =)
ummm personally i feel your blog is already very interactive, you seem to respect us as readers and when needed, answer questions and stuff, that to me is pretty good and benifcial to us lot. in that respect, it;’s one of the best blogs i read =)
most artist/animators blogs don’t even allow comments! and if that, it’s hard to communicate with the artist.

I heard a lot of twitter, here in Argentina is not very popular since everyone have facebook. So I’ll talk about facebook.
I had my facebook acoount since it was not popular and then the boom of popularity came, Every person I knew suddenly had a facebook account when I first thought it was gonna be another common page..
I don’t find any of these sites very useful but at least I can have fun with the games on it!
So, I use facebook to play brain games basically, but it can be useful when you have an interest in some subject and you search it in the site and find people who shares the same interests.. For example, I knew a bunch of people who share my devotion for Camp Lazlo there, and it’s very cool to know that I am not the only one..
In fact, if you press my link name here in your blog, It’ll carry you to my facebook profile.. Because I don’t own any blogs or have my own web site..
If you want to create your own facebook account, It will be okay (It will take 2 minutes, you only need an email adress), because you can use the privacy options to decide what to put and what not, and you have to personally accept every friend you want to share your thoughts with. Also you will be able to chat with them at anytime, and you can hide your personal information as you wish so you are happy with what you wanna share. Same with twitter I guess.
You can create your own private group, it’s like having your own space in facebook, like in here. And you can name administrators to put some order in the webspace.
About videoblogging it could be a good idea, it gives your thoughts a special ‘zing’. Anyway the decision is yours. (I’ll find difficult to understand you talking I guess, I have to train my ears to fully understand english)
Another idea I saw in tv like 2 years ago, was about famous people creating their own Windows Live Messenger account and organize multichats. They pact this to a specific hour and chat about a selected topic, just to have fun, or to know what their closest fans think, the idea depends on each person that organizes the conversation.
About this current blog, it is just fine.. You are doing a good job in administrating it and so far things were good I think. You could express your thoughs and feelings and we could read you and respond to your posts, so If you wanna change something, it’s up to you too..
Well, I wrote a lot today, I hope this’ll help. Or is just a bunch of obvious thoughts? haha.. That’s what I know. Excuse me for my grammar I did my best! Haha Good luck trying to understand me! You’ll need it hehe

well, I think the video blogging would be nice. I mean, if you uploaded pencil tests and stuff, it would be really useful for amateur animators, or animators in general in fact. I mean, I know it would be useful for me.
The facebook account could be good publicity, and you can share videos and stuff, tell people about events and invite them to these events.
For example: you create an account, and a lot of fans add you. Then you invite them to an event called “Kaboing.TV launches X day” give the link to the site and stuff. Then people can select an option between “i’ll attend”, “I won’t” or “maybe”, and so you can have an idea of how many people in the world know about the site, and how many cares and stuff. I THINK you can also make polls.
Sorry about my English, I’m from Argentina.

I don’t like twitter.
I hate facebook, not my style.
But both should get you some nice publicity.
The videoblogging does sound nice.
Greetings from the other side of the Uruguay river.

You should do Twitter even though I don’t have I really, think you will get enough hits off of it

I find Facebook and MySpace impossible to keep up with, so I don’t bother. Twitter seems a little better, as it’s very easy to reach out and post a question there, and have others answer you.
Or say, you’re on your way into the city. I’ve been told one of the best ways to check on traffic and accidents to avoid is to check twitter. People do love to complain, so use it to your advantage I suppose?
The video blog idea would work great for you, I think. I know all of us would love to see a few pencil tests or hear a few rants, go for it.
My big issue with Facebook is once you have enough friends added, it’ll take you hours to keep up with everyone’s constant little updates. I’d rather just spend the time drawing or playing games than that. However, some of the advice others have posted on Facebook seem pretty adantageous to you. Especially finding out how many people would “attend” a launch day for your site – that’s actually a great idea!

I have no love in my heart for Twitter. It strikes me as voyeuristic, to be honest. I can see that for a business just sending out real quick service or product updates, it would be pretty useful, but no one seems to use it for that.
I generally use Facebook for keeping up with people. I often don’t even look at my fan pages save for one or two groups. I recently quit using some of the notes and photo functions due to the TOS screw up a while back. I have been informed that the portions in question were reverted, but i still opt not to have my creative work available to be ganked by Facebook in the future.
I prefer to read blogs, and only watch one or two video blogs sporadically.
Myspace has become a fairly useless tool for keeping up with people or a business. However, its is an invaluable resource for tracking my favorite bands and their release/tour schedules.
Presently, I like the traditional blog format, even if always reading posts is gonna give me Glaucoma…

100% agreed with everyone here. Go facebook joe… 40,000 Rocko fans won’t argue with it!!

I follow Twitter feeds for certain purposes. I don’t do social networking at all. I periodically email a few select friends. Your video blog sounds like a great idea.

I think I’d be a great idea to do video blogging from time to time. It would also be nice to be able to read your full posts in an RSS reader. I’d welcome almost anything you have to offer.

I use facebook to get my work out there, into the public. I think it definitely is a useful resource and twitter is nice, especially if you’re involved in Nanowrimo, as I am, I enjoy writing as a hobby. ANimation is my prime concern, though, but yes, facebook and twitter are useful resources for sure, Mr. Murray. By the way, what is your facebook screen name? I tried desperately to find you, but to no avail. Perhaps I’m just looking for the wrong thing.
