A Long History in Activism
In the eighties, my late wife Diane and I were staunch environmentalists. My wife became one of the first to push for reusable bags to replace those grocery store plastic bags everyone was using. So of course, when I had the opportunity to put some ideas in front of millions with my shows Rocko’s Modern Life and Camp Lazlo, those messages creeped in. The musical Zanzibar (known as the “Recycle Show”) was a recipient of the 1996 Environmental Media Award, one of the awards I’m most proud of.
Over the years, I’ve also been asked to speak to groups of students and give graduation commencement speeches. It’s a perfect opportunity to discuss a life in art and the challenges we face to make it a reality.
Please take a moment and visit these two extremely important topics to me, and see where it leads you.
